El Campello: The area of El Campello boasts 23 km of magnificent beaches which offer a wide variety of water sports. The modern seaside area of Carrerlamar, formerly the fisherman's district, is one of the most attractive on the Costa Blanca. Here you can see the charming old one storey houses which are a reminder of Campello's history. This is quite varied as the remains of a bronze age settlement, a 4th century BC Iberian village and Greek vases have been found here. Finestrat: Finestrat was once a Muslim settlement and is now a typical Mediterranean village. It is surrounded by lush fields of fruit and almond trees. The parochial church of Saint Bertomeu is to be found in the centre of Finestrat and its lofty belfry stands high above the town. A festival in honour of Saint Bertomeu is celebrated in August each year. Finestrat's Font del Molí is particularly attractive and water pours from its fifteen spouts. Santa Pola: Santa Pola is primarily a fishing village which offers the visitor plenty of opportunity to engage in this most relaxing of pastimes. There are also excellent beaches to choose from. Villa Joyosa: Villajoyosa, "the jewel city", is 30 km from Alicante and 10 km from Benidorm. Near the port in the lower part of the village, there is a beautiful esplanade shaded by palm trees. One of the most characteristic sights of Villajoyosa is the brightly painted houses beside the river. The use of such colours as ochre, red, yellow and blue is a visual feast and the houses appear to be suspended over the river bed. Rojales: Rojales is a traditional Mediterranean village on the Segura River. Montforte del Cid: In the Middle Vinalopó and only 20 km from Alicante City, Monforte del Cid offers its visitors the chance to enjoy nature in one of the most traditional pilgrims' spots on the Costa Blanca: the hermitage of Saint Pascual Bailón.
